WOWIE! ZOWIE! What a great find.
Welcome to the '40 Pontiac Owner's Club! They are the best Pontiacs in my estimation... but I may be a bit partial.
Yell for what ever questions you may have. I have most everything information-wise for them, and have pretty well sourced every place imaginable for the '40 in my past 38 years of owning one. If I don't have an answer, I know others who might.
Are you aware that the 25-Model is the Chevy body making it quite different than the 26 & 28-Models (Buick and Olds body) and 29-Model (Cadillac body)?
Congratulations! _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

The picture doesn't show all the warts (which it does have) on the back fenders and roll pan
The master cylinder is rusted solid - where is the best place to get a new one?
I know Kanter has new bake systems - I've never ordered from them so don't know the quality of there stuff
The car is now in the shed for an engine change - working on it as I have time

Kanter has a very good reputation in the hobbyplace. White Post Restorations also does a good job with brake sleeving: http://whitepost.com/brake-sleeving-rebuilding-services/
For the rear fenders welding patches will be the way to go. I don't know of any patch panels fro them. The rear below the trunk is available for our Chevy-body Pontiacs from Chevs of the 40s (http://www.chevsofthe40s.com). For the sedan it is PN4103105B. I redid mine for the second time and used a lot of sheet metal and welding. Lots of work and then I discovered this piece. It also has the trunk weatherstrip edge on it. I have always been told our bodies ate 100% Chevy from the cowl back so would believe this would have to fit. I've never known of any differences. They even have the tool tray and the wooden lid.
Engine change...? To what? My 6-cylinder engine from my '40 went to the United Arab Emirates. Some sheik or something with a '40 woodie wagon that needed an engine. I wish I knew who he was before I quoted a price!! _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Wow nice car
The engine is from my 2511 parts car (formally project car)
the odometer on that one says 98,xxx but it sounds great - possibly rebuilt sometime in the past??
think I'll go with new master cylinder maybe wheel cylinders too
I also have a new park brake cable sitting on the shelf

Master cylinder and wheel cylinders are probably available as NOS from Kanter or other places. Do some checking around... even NAPA. They can surprise you sometimes. Those parts were used on many years and many different suppliers made them.
Check with these people too: http://www.northwesternautosupply.com/
I've dealt with them for many years, and they probably have the most old parts of any place around. They are in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Just be sure to ask that any new parts have ZERO rust or pitting inside the cylinder bores. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
