Strato-chief

PostPosted: Thu May 04, 2006 6:36 pm    Post subject: 1966 strato chief Reply with quote

Hi,

I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and i have been looking into a 1966 4-door pontiac strato chief that has a 283 v-8 in it. It has some rusting around the windows and one repaired wheel arch. It does drive, the owner takes it out every summer. Just a nice unrestored vehicle. Now my problem is, I can't seem to find any real good information on strato-chiefs, any recurring problems, or production numbers. I have one web site saying a vehicle like this would go for around 1500$ max.

Any in fo would be greatly appreciated.

Jf

Well, the good news is that you have a good cheap car to use as an introduction to the old car hobby. One you can tinker with to get familiar with cars and learn on . One that you can fix up if you want, and drive around it.

The bad news is, it is really not worth much. I would say, since it would cost as much to properly fix up a 4 dr, with the rust, paint , interior, as it would a 2 door or convertible, you are best to just drive it as is and not invest anything into it in the hopes of it being worth money.

I have a number of Canadian Pontiacs in my collection. ( Strato Chief was the bottom of the line Pontiac for 1966 in Canada. Laurentian & Parisienne were the top models). And like any old car, the few the doors, the more its worth. If you like the body style of 66 Pontiac's and are concerned about value, hold out for a 2dr fastback style, a convertible etc.

At least with Canadian Pontiac's, mechanical parts are easy to come by. The are identical to Chevrolet so Canadian Tire can get them, or any other auto part store. Ebay is a good source of trim and exterior parts, and they can be had relatively inexpensively, and there are companies that reproduce most of the trim pieces for 1966 Pontiac's as well.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to email, dross1958@comcast.net

I attached a photo of our US 66 Pontiac convertible.

Thank you very much for this information. With the research I did, I realised the strato chief was the bottom of the line and I knew the 4 doors really kills the price too. Nevertheless, I am really considering this car, oddly enough it is the exact colour of your pontiac. No problem on the not investing much in it front because I am a student and don't have much. Thats why if i can get it for 1500$ its a real deal for me. Thanks again.

if you need any information or help etc, let me know. my canadian pontiacs were all originally from toronto, and i brought them with me to florida so they are an oddity here.

i know of places in toronto where i used to live for repairs, etc, but i do not know anywhere in ottawa. i do have extra catalogs for pontiac suppliers if you want them, as well as different club information. email me with your address etc, and i can send you some stuff

ps, i attached a photo of my 58 canadian pontiac
