"T" is for T-37

An interesting story we found about a very unique 1971 T-37 got us to thinking about that two-year-wonder from Pontiac again... sorry, we keep forgetting about this less-remembered Pontiac too. It's amazing how seldom you see them, and perhaps their low-dollar appeal upon production keeps them a low-priority restoration project today. Too bad because if you like the early '70s A-bodies and can't really afford (or maybe don't want) a GTO, a Tempest is a cool way to go. Add to it the uniqueness of a T-37 and it may suddenly be a desirable candidate for a Pontiac hobby car. And, if you're lucky enough to find and even rarer GT-37, well, even better!

1917 Oakland- Yellowstone Trail Connection

Here is a chance to learn a little more about the car that begat Pontiac, and U.S. history too. But don't worry, there won't be a test afterwards! We are sharing Pontiac author and historian John Gunnell's story of a journey he is hoping to make in his 1917 Oakland to retrace the Yellowstone Trail route as it traversed his home state of Wisconsin.

There is so much to learn about these early days of motoring- things we can't even imagine today. These early motorists were pioneers in every sense of the word. Watch for more information as John's preparations continue, and an opportunity to help a good cause (the Lion's Club) by sponsoring his trip (by the mile, or any way you like).

1928 Pontiac Landau Sedan

If it wasn't for the early Pontiacs, there wouldn't have been any later ones. Sounds like an oversimplified statement if ever there was one. But, how true that the tremendous acceptance of the early Pontiacs by an excited buying public shot Pontiac out like a shooting star of the automotive world.

1936 Pontiac Custom-Built English Motorhome Camper

One would think that the Americans invented camping, what with all our open spaces and highways. But this rare 1936 custom-built camper made in England disproves that we might have been the first. It also proves that the Old World craftsmanship of the English coach-builders was alive and well when this vehicle was constructed. Furthermore,the best news of all is that it is still in existence in "as new" condition, having recently gone to auction from the original family. Surely its new camping duties will be on display somewhere, but in the past it made some show appearances, so we hope that might continue.

1937 Pontiac- Patina Cabriolet in England

Our good Pontiac friend, Graham Webber, in England never ceases to have a good Pontiac story to tell. We have numerous accounts and adventures of Graham and his early Pontiac quests at PontiacRegistry.com. This particular one is about a rare 1937 Pontiac 8-cylinder cabriolet built, sent to England, bought, used, sold, later shown, and oddly, then dropping out of site for many years. Lucky for it, and Graham, he discovered it and has put it back in roadworthy condition. But for now, that is about all. He has decided to seal the old paint and age scars and enjoy it as is for the time being. You see, he has other projects in place right now too, like a '37 Pontiac woodie wagon he is restoring.

1939 Pontiac Woodie Wagon Advertising

Let's face it, 1939 wasn't exactly SUV time yet. When it came to selling a full-bodied vehicle like the '39 Pontiac Woodie Wagon, it was going to take some special effort, especially when figuring the price increase associated with this custom crafted body vehicle. Here we see factory promotional photos exhibiting the utilitarian nature of this special vehicle, everything from delivery duty, to camping, to hauling a big load of family and friends. These type of photos are just plain fun to look at!

1939-1940 Transparent "Ghost" Pontiac- World Fairs

We have previously offered other articles on this unique Pontiac, as well as numerous photos in our Photo Pin-Board section. But this article includes additional information we have never investigated, nor presented before. Most everyone is familiar with the one lone surviving "ghost" transparent Pontiac (a 1940 26 Model), but here we clear up much of the confusion of the 1939 original car, and the 1940 Torpedo 29 Model- both of which have been lost to history.

1949 Pontiac Sedan Delivery Rat Rod

"There is always room for everyone in our hobby." Nowhere is this claim more tested than when it comes to the Rat Rods. Other than a counter-culture statement, I find no real use for them. And when that mentality takes away a Pontiac that is both rare and unique, the line may be crossed.

Let us know what you think about this 1949 Pontiac that has gone "Rat." That old expression "Uglier than Rat" has never been so true!

1956 Pontiac "Papoose"

So, you're jealous of the Corvette guys and their zippy little 2-seater sports cars, and you know full well PMD will never bring the Club de Mer nor Bonneville to market, so. . . what to do?!? How about you build your own Pontiac 2-seater sports car? Well, that's exactly what a father and son team in Marietta, Georgia did back in the '60s. 1957 Chieftain Project

What's better than looking at beautiful pictures of a fully restored Pontiac? Well, to me, it's the pictures along the way to that point. Those are the fun shots! We do, however, still look forward to seeing the completed pictures, but it sure is enjoyable to see the craftsmanship in the various stages.

1962 Tempest Goes Dyno

There are a lot of fun things to do with your hobby Pontiac, but here is one not everyone gets a chance to enjoy.. go for a Dyno Test.

Sure, the racer boys are used to this, watching as the needle squeaks up another peg after pouring more money down their carburetor; but the average guy probably never even thinks of this.

Watch in your area if a speed shop offers a "Dyno Day" like this proud '62 Tempest owner participated in. It is a great way for the shop to show off its facilities, and to build good will with the car community.

1963

This is a little information in answer to the question that floats around periodically "Hey, did you see those pictures of the tow Pontiac?" Well, this is a little more than just a "tow" vehicle. Those afraid of any heavy lifting "need not apply".

Like the JFK Navy Pontiac ambulance, this is a Pontiac that gained some fame and then disappeared. It would be neat to find out what ever happened to this vehicle, but information on it is slim.

Report.” With the number of times they choose a Pontiac product, we like to think they have a soft spot

1969 GTO Resto-Mod

How often do you think something like a GTO convertible, an angry girlfriend, and a baseball bat lead to a happy ending? Rarely, I bet! Well, in this case it was a very happy ending for a lucky '69 GTO convertible and an even luckier GTO hobbyist.

1970 GTO Judge Convertible- Car of the Week

Our friends at Old Cars Weekly have outdone themselves again with this feature of a beautifully restored '70 GTO Judge convertible. But even better (at least for us former Wisconsonites) is the connection to a famous automotive tourist spot we all frequented- The Dells Automobile Museum. And as if it couldn't get any better, the founder, Dick Tarnutzer, was pretty much a Pontiac guy- which has rubbed off on his son, Lance. This car story is as much about the GTO as it is about a famous museum and a family history and legacy.

1973-'75 Grand Am: Collectible Classic

Little is seen of these '73-'75 supposed European design influenced Pontiacs today. And even less is actually known about them. After all, a three year only car gets forgotten about pretty quickly. But we look to change that here. After all, these Grand Ams were pretty slick cars, and if a hobbyist is looking for something nobody else has, this may just be the answer.

2002 Trans Am- Collector Edition

Pontiac sent the 2002 Collector Edition Trans Am out the door in its old big, bad, and brazen way. To bad it hadn't maintained that attitude through the tough times... they might still be here today. But that's history...

Here we see the special brochure package that went out to sell this limited amount of 2000 quantity "Collector Editions" that would be built. If you don't have one of these T/As in your stable, at least enjoy the sexy brochure and a look at the last of a great car.

Gold in Them Thar Hills- Hurst and more!

If you love '69 and '70 Grand Prixs, especially rare 4-speed ones, Hurst gold, and even rarer GPs like a former NASCAR race car, then this trip in the Pennsylvania hills would have been a treat for sure.

A well known Pontiac collector and restorer took us on a tour of his collection recently, and it was fascinating.

Marilyn Monroe's 1950 Pontiac

A long time ago we came across the "cheese cake" shot of young Marilyn in a swimming suit posing with her new 1950 Pontiac sedan. It struck us then that it was such a Plain Jane for someone who definitely wasn't. Later she snazzed it up a bit, but at this time practicality must have prevailed. We were happy to see Old care Weekly run this article telling the story and where the car is now. We just had to share it with you.

Memories of Our 1950 Pontiac in California

In most every car lover's lifetime there is, or will probably be, a certain car that brings back feeling of times long past that were of special importance. For some it is their first car, the one the learned to drive in, one that an older brother had that made them wish they were older too, or as in this case, an older Pontiac that a group of young men palled around in and explored the big world post-license time. And, in car-crazy California makes it an even more exciting time to have a set of trusty wheels.
