Mickey Thompson 4-Engine Pontiac Power

When serious horsepower is a must!
September 1960

It is with a heavy heart that we feel some relief concerning the recent conviction of the SOB who had Mickey Thompson and his wonderful wife so brutally murdered over twenty years ago. The world lost a true legend of the racing world.
Here we see the famous Challenger I which Mickey Thompson ran at 406.6 mph back on September 9, 1960. It was powered by four- count 'em, four!- supercharged Pontiac V8s. This same record setting Pontiac-powered vehicle can be seen displayed in the NHRA Motorsport Museum.
For more about Mickey Thompson, see the article in "NHRA and Pontiac" entitled "NHRA Pontiac History- Part II". It is also featured in our On-Line Magazine (posted January 7, 2007).
