I am looking for the manual, or atleast copies of the pages of the manual to replace the head gasket on a 90 Grand Prix Turbo. The car belongs to a kid in my church. It is sitting in my shop right now. I showed him my 51, and the shop manual for it, and he agreed that we don't want to tear into it until we have the book to put it back together. I have posted in two different places on POCI website, and here. The only response I have recieved is someone said that you could get them on Ebay for $30-$35. You find one for $35, buy it and have it sent to me. I'll pay for it. The best I found was a CD for $50.
I came into this hobby many years ago. I contacted the GP T/A, who I have happened to know for more than 30 years, and he told me that he had donated his manuals to the AACA Library. I'm an AACA member. It costs $10 to ask if the have the information, some additional hourly fee to look for it, and 30 cents a page to print it. Gee, thanks. What do I pay dues for?
This kid is 17 years old. How am I supposed to recruit him into our clubs if we can't help him out? Do we no longer have people who work on cars for a living? My car was 24 years old when I first joined the club. I made a trip from Grand Rapids, Mich to Sand Diego, and back. On the way back, I dropped a U-joint in Lincoln, Neb. I had the club roster with me. I called a guy who looked local, and he came and got me; He had a grease pit in his shop, and knew where to get the parts for me the next day. I have a car trailer, I have a lift, and I have a spare bedroom. I'll come get you.
People who have 90 Grand PRix are the future of our hobby. If we can't help them now, when theya re teens, how can we expect them to help us out, but joining our clubs, and taking over the work of perpetuating them?
What is in it for them? |

John,
We have known each other for many years, and have together seen many changes in the hobbyplace... most what we have not wished to see.
In the hopes of changing/helping, I have started PontiacRegistry.com. To date I believe many people still are slow to reach out and help. I wish I had the info needed here for the later model work, but I do not.
I too wish to reach out and ask anyone who can help to please do so. It is what we all wish to change and to help show the younger people how easy it is to get help from other, fellow hobbyists.
Let's all help each other like in the "good old days." In that regard they were good old days.

50scars, if you need a manual for that car you can go to your local AutoZone & they have a complete selection of Chiltons manuals & for that car it is included in the G/P W-body manual. They run about $ 20.00 but they are a good source for info. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |

That was back in 2006. The other guy who was working on the car is a certified mechanic who works at a Chevy dealer. He had to call in a few favors to get the pages from GM. Compared to the manuals from the factory, Chilton's are a joke. |

You could have probably done the same thing , if you needed pages from a service manual you to could have gone to a chevy dealer & talked with a service writer & they would have either loaned you the manual or ran off the pages you needed. Most all dealer will loan their books if you need them . Some will even give you the manual because they don'y use paper books much anymore & will give them away just to get rid of them. Thats how I've gotten a lot of mine. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |

This is a 9 year old post. You are the first one who has responded to it.. We solved our problems, and fixed the car long ago, WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM CLUB MEMBERS.
Quit trying to beat it to death. |

1st off I'm not trying to beat anything to death, but by your comments I can see why no one possibly answered your question for help. I'm new to this site & haven't looked to much at the dates of the posts but I think that if your name comes up again with a question it will probably go unanswered because of your snide comments to me. Weather it' a new or an old post you should consider yourself lucky to have any one want to help weather its in the past or the near future. I just hope you don't talk to everyone like this or you'll find your self without any help or friends. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |

I happen to be a tech adviser for older years. When I am asked a question, you do receive copies of the relevant pages of the tech manual, any from Service Craftsman News, and or Fisher Body News, and if needed interchange information from Hollander's, plus any advice I have about the evolution gained from more than 50 years of dealing with these cars. Possibly now, the information specific to the Turbo GP engine, is public, but back then, GM still held it tightly. Like I said, the other guy who was working on the car is an ISA certified mechanic, who works at a Chevy dealer. He finally contacted a guy from a Pontiac dealer in another state that he had attended a class with, and was able to have him purloin the information for him. Turns out that not just any Pontiac dealer was authorized to work on that engine, the car had to be transported to one specifically authorized to deal with it.
How long ago was it? The owner was in 11th grade, his girlfriend was in 10th grade. They have since graduated from high school, college, and are employed. In fact, she now has a master's degree in microbilogy. |

I really don't understand your post. It was about the you responded to my post that upset me. You were rude. As for the Turbo G/P All that was needed back then was to ask for the manual from the dealer even that LONG ago. The manuals were not secret info , I know I was still at that time working in a Pontiac dealer & we loaned the books out all the time to people. Some we had them leave a deposit for the books but If it was one that we weren't using at the time out it went. Or we would copy the pages they would need. The turbo G/P was no different then the turbo Regal that Buick had a that time. Those engine weren't a secret project engine, GM never had a n engine that you couldn't find info for repairing them when in a production car. Getting the info you needed back then maybe could have been your attitude & the way you were asking for the info. But if that engine was in the cars the info to repair them would have been in several books probably before it even reached the dealers lot. Most are. Chiltons & Motors would have it in book form when it hit the street. They may not have been as detailed as the GM manual , but it would have been close so people could have used it to fix their car if they didn't want to take it back to a dealer. My 73 GTO only went back to the dealer once & that was because they wouldn't give me the part to put it on myself. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |

That is not what our local Pontiac/Cadillac/GMC dealer told us. Maybe you worked for one that was authorized to work on them. We didn't have a local Buick Dealer, so we couldn't try him. Steve ended getting the pages he needed from a guy he knew in another state.
That was the only time I asked a question. I always am answering questions. |
