Hi, I am installing the optional instrument cluster into my 1965 GP. Does anyone have a picture of the cluster, or can tell me where the position of the oil pressure and temperature gauges are located? I need to know if the temp gauge is supposed to be located on the right or left side. _________________ |

I checked service manuals and owners-- found plenty of reference to this, but no pictures or mention of location.
I consulted a Pontiac expert and got this answer: "Very simple, the temp gauge is on the right and the oil pressure is on the left."
Any chance of sharing some photos and instructions of the conversion so we could document it that others could learn from it?
Good luck.

65GP, You may already be aware of this, but when I did the swap in my 66 2+2 several years ago, the reproduction sending unit for oil pressure was incorrect. Essentially, it was the same sender sold for the GTO; however, the GTO and full size did not interchange due to a difference in the ohlms. Sorry, not sure about the spelling. Every time I fired the car up, the gauge was pegged. Ultimately, I was able to purchase a NOS sender and everything worked properly. Just thought I would pass this along since I just about pulled every hair in my head out trying to find a short in the wiring. Good luck with your swap. If you have any trouble, please contact 2+2 adviser Duncan Miller. He is my brother and I'm sure he would be glad to help. _________________ |

Thanks for your response. I purchased a repro sender from Performance years and I will hook it up soon for testing. If I encounter a problem with resistance, I may try installing a resistor in the circuit to "dial in" the calibration. I WILL post a close to this issue after I connect the gauges this weekend.

I wired in my gauges up, and my experience was the same as 1035kmiller1's. It pegged my gauge. It looks like I'll need to begin searching for the correct sending unit. BTW, I called Performance Years, who sold me this unit as being suitable for a Fullsize car, and they "were very sorry." Oh well, $42.00 plus shipping down the drain! _________________ |

"Sorry"... now that helps a lot-- NOT! Don't these type of places know the bad press they get by that sort of "customer service"?
Give a try to Marx Parts. They have tons of early stuff like this, I hope for as late as your car. They also give a discount to our members. Look under "Affiliates" and them "Member Discounts."
As another thought, have you checked with your local NAPA store? They have lots of aftermarket items too. I have found them veryhelpful over the years.
Keep us posted. |
