I was wanting to build a street motor, 400, and wanted to run a street aluminum head. I am on a fairly tight budget, but am willing to spend money on the correct cylinder heads. I want a very streetable engine that delivers strong numbers at the drag strip.

I wanted to find out if any of you guys have experience running either one of these heads, the 85cc Kauffman or the 87cc Edelbrock.

I realize running the Edelbrock heads will lead to more cost on the headers or exhaust manifolds(round port). The Edelbrock head only accepts .575 max lift. Not sure what the Kauffman head will support. The Kauffman head will be easier on the wallet with d-port headers.

How close are the flow numbers for the heads?

Give me guys your opinions. I plan on building the engine this summer.

you may want to check out the performance years board or the pontiac zone board. lots of unhappy customers with the kre product, there are a few that were pleased though.
most complaints are the flow numbers they are supposed to be aren't even close to what the heads actually flow.

Thank you Mr. Fulper for the insight and good information. It appears for a lot of obvious reasons the Edelbrock head would be the best route for me on a street engine.

I'm running the E-heads on my 413 right now as my 462 is down for some work. But what I did was transfer all the parts from my 462 to the 413 (400+ .60 over) & it runs fine. Now my 462 build 9455 =.30 over) It was a set of the 87 E-heads, a Crane RAIV blue print cam, Performer RPM intake 1:65 roller tip rockers Comp cam , SRP forged Pistons Eagle forged H-beam rods Dbl. roller timing chain & gears. RAIV exhaust manifolds 2 1/2 exhaust to the rear axle, no port work to the heads & topped with an 800 cfm Q-jet, with a 3:73 to 1 rear gear & 4 spd. M-22 rock crusher. Last year with some internal problems it still went 11:72 @ 119 mph. I thank all the power to the E-heads. I believe in the E-heads & would run only them on any build from now on. My 413 will go high 12's with all the parts listed here in it. But I will have the 462 back in next spring, I miss the TQ. & speed.
