1965 GTO

PostPosted: Sat Nov 12, 2022 7:45 am    Post subject: Tiger Gold 65 GTO Reply with quote

Hi all, I am new to the forum.
I recently purchased a 65 GTO that was originally a Tiger Gold car. As long as I have been restoring muscle cars and especially Pontiac, this is my first of this category. From what i understand there were only about 200 for this year and this was a dealer ordered car, so all of the options don't show up on the PHS docs. Can anyone give me a little in site to how much more the dealers put into the cars, especially the Hurst wheels. I am trying to bring this back to the way it rolled out the door and I don't want to go over or under board with the restoration. Thanks for any help.

From everything we've seen or heard of these particular cars, it is probably anyone's guess just what a dealer may or may not have added to a certain car. And with that, unless one was to find an original owner, one might never know. All that said, we ask if all gold '65 GTOs were Hurst cars, or maybe just painted gold.

A search on-line produces a boatload of articles about "Tiger" GTOs and "Hurst" GTOs. Perhaps buried in these articles is some info on how to document them better. As a note, Dennis Kirban in Pennsylvania has done a lot of Pontiac research over the years, as well as books on Hurst. Although Dennis has swung into the Buick GN market, he still may be able to direct you to some good info. Try contacting him through his web site at: https://www.kirbanperformance.com/

Let us know what you learn along the way.
