Hi all,

I am trying to find out what the "standard format" was for a '48 Silver Streak in regards to Vin and engine number matching? My VIN number is P8PB35167. What would the engine number be then...?

Your VIN breaks down as:
P= Pontiac Michigan assy. plant
8= 8-cylinder engine
P- 194
B= Streamliner
35167= production sequence at MI plant. The last number for a Streamliner-8 coming out of the Michigan plant was 61682. So yours was about mid-year production.

All our references show that your engine number (left side, top of engine) should be the same as the VIN.

Hi Larry,

Thank you for that information, much appreciated! Can you tell me what the
P -"194" relate to?

Would the full VIN be on the engine number or just the numbers - 35167 ?

OOPS! Typo... P=1948

I think the engine numbers are just the first group of numbers, but not 100% sure.
