1964 Catalina

I just bought a 1966 Catalina convertible from an estate a couple weeks ago. It's in very good shape and runs great after a set of new tires and minor hose and gasket replacements after sitting a lot for the past several years or more.

My only issue now is the top. It goes down fine but won't come back up. I put it up and down a few times since I've had it and it worked ok. The going up struggled a little bit but it went. Yesterday, nothing. No hum or any effort at all.

Any thoughts? I guess it could be the motor just being out of fluid from leaking over the years when it sat. Or a bad motor? Where is the motor located? I did a quick search and didn't find it. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

When the top goes down but struggles going up it is often a lack of fluid. The fact that there is nothing now, might mean a blown fuse. Hopefully not a burned out motor. Check that there is a relay (probably should be). They can't be reset but new generic ones are very cheap.

We assume that there are no leaks that you can see and that all joints/hinges are lubed and working freely. We also assume that both sides are working equally slowly. That should rule out the cylinders, unless they are both equally bad.

Here is a little information that may help, as well as be a source for help and/or parts: http://topsdown.com/pages.php?pageid=6&send_isJS=Y&send_browser=YYY|Safari|537|Win32|Y|1600|900|Edge+PDF+Viewer
