Calling all Fiero Owners!

Just wanted to see which members own Fieros and hear a little about your car.

I'm not new to PR, but my membership and profile were "lost" somehow and have just recently been restored.

I've got a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT, 5 speed, Medium Red Metallic that I'm working to restore. So, what have you got?

We've traded emails before. I'm not new to PR either. My car was the February 2007 calendar car. I am the original owner.

It is a 1985 Sport Coupe. The Sport Coupe was situated in the Fiero line above the base car and below the SE. Mine has a 2.5L with a five speed. The Sport Coupes were unusual in that they could have a varied mix of options. For instance when I was buying mine, the dealer had a Sport Coupe with a V6.

Anyway, my car has A/C, tilt-wheel, sunroof, aluminum wheels, AM/FM stereo with auto-reverse cassette, luggage rack, rear window defogger (a completely unecessary option on a Fiero) and the GT steering wheel wrapped in brown leather to match the tan and brown interior but with that standard black rubber center. The body is white.

I've driven it over 104,000 miles. It has been the most reliable car that I have ever owned. Except for some clutch problems early on, I've only replaced the oxygen sensor (once), the throttle position sensor (once), a few of the light bulbs, the heater core, and regular maintenance items (hoses, belts, tires, brakes, shocks and fluids and filters). A couple of years ago I installed the vented brake kit from the Fiero Store on the front. I've replaced the shocks twice and now use Monroe Sensatrak shocks. I've also put on the widest tires that the stock wheels will accomodate. I have kept my car completely stock. The only mods are window tint and Fiero splash guards.

There must be other Fiero owners who are members of the Registry. We can not be the only ones.

I was wondering about the vented disc upgrade you installed; did it improve the braking? I wanted to improve the brakes on my car, I think that's one of the car's weak spots.

I am a previous Fiero. My collection of cars grew very quickly and I ended up selling the Fieros I had. I am very supportive of you guys and know both of you own great cars. I really enjoyed the past feature on the Fiero. Hope to see your car featured too David.

The Fieros I owned were extremely practical. Good fuel economy, great handling, etc. They are great looking cars too!! Of all the small cars I have owned over the years, my Fieros were excellent in bad weather conditions such as snow and ice. I could not believe how good they got around.

Happy to see you guys in the club and look forward to articles on Fieros. Do you guys have any info on the 2.5 iron duke super duty program? Larry was going to look it up, but thought you guys might be able to obtain it quicker. I gave my GM papers on this to the last guy I sold my Fiero to. I can try to get copies from him.

Quick question. Did the Fiero and T-1000 (Chevette) share the same spindles?

Honestly, I don't know. I never really did any testing to determine if there was any improvement in braking with the vented brake kit. I don't race or drive my car too aggressively, and here in the relatively flat Midwest, brake fade is not an issue. I just thought that as long as I needed to do a brake job, it would be worthwhile to upgrade the brakes. There definately has not been a loss in performance.

Hello, I came across my 87 GT about 3 years ago by accident while I was looking for a 68 mustang. I test drove it and fell in love with it. It's a fun car and I've had alot of people ask about it when I take it out. It's Med Red with sunroof and rear wing. It has 112,000 miles. Everything works great after I finally got the AC working. It's all original except for the Pioneer deck/speakers and Potenzia tires. I realize there's not much value on these cars, but I think they are very underrated.

You have one of the best Fieros around. The bugs were all worked out, the performance was great.. why PMD/GM pulled the plug after getting everything right is a wonder.

The Fiero groups are a very dedicated bunch and love their cars-- as they should. They sure represent an interesting part of Pontiac's unique history.

Hey Guys; I am not a Fiero owner, but as an old GM foreman I thought I would share some info. In Canada at least we were told the first year production of four cyl. Fiero had a lifetime warranty on engine oil leaks. Reason was the oil would leak down on to the cat converter and set the car on fire. Not knocking the car just sharing hidden warranty info. Enjoy.

I have a 84 notch back with 51000 original miles. I bought it two years ago from someone who had it in storage for years. It in beautiful shape with only a few minor fixes still needed. (A/C, cruise)
Last year we only drove it on nice days in the Summer so I looked into historical vehicle plates and collector car insurance for this year. My plates went from $100/year to $30/10 years! That's $3/year!! The insurance was just as amazing. The Detroit area has the one of the highest rates in the country and I was paying almost $100/month for minimum coverage, no collision or comp. Now I get full coverage for $130/year!!!!!

Fiero... probably one of Pontiac's most fun cars to have today!

Congratulations of a great move in the Pontiac hobbyplace. They are great little cars, and in my opinion, the later ones were fantastic looking cars. Not that the earlier ones weren't nice, but it seemed Pontiac finally was getting them right were they should have been in the first place... and then pulled the plug- in their seeming infinite wisdom... NOT!

I have an 85 GT resto-mod as my daily driver as I get ready to perform the engine swap to a 3.4 DOHC. My 'twin' is actually the genetic predecessor to the GT body...I have an 84 Indy Fiero in pristine condition and am the 2nd owner of the car. The engine was replaced under recall 12000 miles ago and the total mileage is 48010 as of it being delivered to me by enclosed truck. I plan on driving it while my 85 is down for the swap. My main reason for it is to show it and enjoy cruising in it. Does anyone know if the Pace Car registry is still active for these? Thanks...Steve
