Few would debate the "maverick" behavior of one of Pontiac's greatest promoters and leaders, John Z. DeLorean.
He was the keystone of Pontiac's exciting years when they made the leap from grandpa's car to a young man's dream. He had a solid engineering badckground, but had that rare combination of knowing how to work a slide rule while also working the politics of a huge cumbersome system. It is with thanks to John DeLorean's maverick mentality that we enjoyed the ride that was all Pontiac's setting the course for the rest of the industry to follow.
With taking chances comes problems. But inspite of things that may not have gone as planned in later years, the chances he took most often exceeded the wildest of expectations, earning John Z. DeLorean a permanent place as a Pontiac All Star.
You can read numerous articles in our On-Line Magazine concerning many of the great developments within PMD that are a result of "John Z". _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Larry while working at the Pontiac dealer that I bought my 73 GTO at the Parts mgr. had a book that was about the Pontiac history & it had a couple of chapters in it about John Z. It was a very interesting book . I read the entire book while I was in on sat. morning before people started to come in & buy things on our 1/2 days .The book was very good & with most books about GM it had some stuff in it that was not very flattering which I think they wouldn't have liked it being in there much. But I read it & loved the trash that was in there. The chapters that talked about John Z. weren't like what we have all heard about him although some was. He was a bit of a hot head & very pushy when he wanted something he could get really mad when someone tried to tell him NO. That we knew. But there is a lot in the book that was said about how he felt about being with GM over the years & how he looked at his future at GM . the book was a very good read. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |
