I was the original owner of a 1967 Le Mans that was sold in 1978. I still have the build sheet and original information for it, but I can't find anything under VIN searches because these don't have the typical 15 number VIN.

Anyone know how I can get help with this?

Sadly, we see these requests all the time, and there is no good news to report. If any states have records going back very far, they won't share the info for privacy concerns. And no states work back-and-forth either, which would be needed as these cars (especially if still around) often crossed state lines.

The only cases of "lost love" cars being found that I have ever heard of in 40+ years were when a car was surprisingly located locally.

My best advise has always been to locate a car as close as the one you "lost" and move non as if it was still yours.

BTW, has anyone ever spotted my '66 Fairlane GT 390, 4-speed painted a sexy red, white, and blue that I sold when leaving the Air Force in 1973? I sure would like to have that one back!

Well that's exactly what I've found. What a bummer! This car was bought with newly acquired flight pay. Traded in a Corvair for it.

I'd heard that the kid that bought the car wrecked it shortly after it was sold, chances are that back then it ended up in a junk yard and rotted away.

Thanks for the help!
