I have replaced the Driven Gear that had the end of the shaft melted off by the Cable, replaced the Cable, and now the Head, which started making noise after I replaced the Driven Gear and Cable.

The new Speedometer Head is quiet, but below 20 MPH, it has the jitters, and over 20 MPH, I'm not even sure if it's reading right. Could the new Cable, which did not match the old Cable length be at fault?

Was the new cable longer? If so, it could be putting stress on the speedo head. Shorter shouldn't affect anything as there is plenty of room for everything that slips together.

Yes, the new Cable is longer, but I routed it, no sharp bends, to allow for the extra length. Someone suggested lubricating the new cable. Any thoughts?

Oh. I thought perhaps you had only replaced the inner cable, and it was a tad longer. That could have been an issue. However, if you replaced the entire cable assembly and it was slightly longer, I don't see how that would be a problem.

One would think the new assy. would be lubricated, but pulling the inner cable out and putting on some lithium grease sure couldn't hurt.

Did you secure the cable, especially where it loops extra length. Although I don't really think it could be "hopping" any.

Usually a bouncing needle is in the speedo head, as they work with magnetism. It sounds more to me that the new speedo head isn't working right/well.

Given the other Cable was the original Cable, plus part of the driven Gear was melted to it, I wasn't taking chances, and replaced the Cable assembly, not just the inner Cable. I did make sure to secure the Cable, and at first, with the old Speedometer Head, everything was fine, then the original Speedometer Head started making noise, so yesterday I swapped it out. What a p.i.a that job is.

Now the new Head is quiet, but it has those issues I mentioned, and now EVERYTHING from the driven Gear out, is new.
