I'm looking for a black 1941 Pontiac Sedan with suicide doors. This is my Dads first car which he crashed and totaled after buying used at 16 years old. I'm buying for his 80th bday.

Can anyone help on the style number? All I know is 1941 with Suicide doors.

Thanks!

1940 was the last year for the "suicide" rear doors. The 25, 26, and 28 models had them; the 29 model did not.

No 1941 Pontiacs had suicide doors.

Send us a photo and we will identify it for you.

i don't have a picture. Only have what he describes. Black car, White walls, not the red wheels, it was a 3 speed with clutch.... Gears on the steering wheel. A long gangster like car. Suicide doors,,, sounds like he has the year wrong.

Must be a 1940 then,,,, right?

It could be any Pontiac from 1940 on back to about 1938. Before 1938, the gear shift was on the floor.

If it is a 1940 (like I have), there are a number of models. Can you come right out and ask your father about it? Tell him you're looking for a picture of his old, first car and need his help.

To be most accurate, you must ask if it had a 6- or 8-cylinder engine. That will get us closer.

Go into our "Great Pontiac Photos & More" Pin-Board and show him the pictures of all the different years. They are posted in year order, so are easy to find.

Also check our "Vintage Ads" Pin-Board. You could have a lot of fun with your father doing this. I bet he'd really enjoy it.

Look under "Members" above to find the Pin-Boards.

Ok,,, I have spoken to his brothers and confirmed the following:

- 1941 4 door sedan with 3 speed manual clutch.

Therefore, I think we are talking about the 1941 "De Luxe Torpedo Four Door Sedan. His brothers have confirmed from the 1941 Pontiac ads, so this is my target purchase.

Any ideas on where to look other than Google to find this car. Not finding much there.

First, I would post a "Wanted" ad in our Classifieds. Then, I would pick up a Hemmings Motor News at the news stand, or at many grocery stores. That is still the "Bible" of the old car hobbyplace.

What a neat surprise that will be. The '41s are pretty popular, so you should be able to locate one.
