I just acquired a 1953 Pontiac chieftain 2 deluxe that's been sitting for quite some time. Solid car but trying to figure out some of the wiring.

I'm looking for a little help with the wiring and fuses on the firewall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put in a new battery, change the spark plugs wires ignition coil and more. Put in an aftermarket ignition because I didn't have a key. The car will turn over.

I cannot get any of the lights to work. Oddly the bright light indicator will come on on the dash and the fuel gauge will too.

Attached is a picture showing a couple fuse blocks not connected. All the fuses in the fuse panel under the dash are fine.

First thing you need to do is check our On-Line Reference Manual Library. Check the 1949-54 Manual. In the Electrical Section is page 12-2, a complete wiring schematic.

Your wiring is a real mess. I see at least one disconnected inline fuse and a lot of badly damaged wires. Even if you get this thing going, a fire is definitely a good possibility.

It is a long process, but one system, one wire at a time is needed. There are companies who make new harnesses, but you can redo it yourself. But even so, try to get it all working with the old wiring first. Then replace or redo it all for safety sake.

I have not yet gotten up to the going back together stage but did clean up that tag. the fuse for the headlight then self must be on the center fire wall inside just over the hump. sorry don't have a pictures of it.
