An 82 yo widow gave me a hardtop she says her husband bought a very long time ago for his 1950 Pontiac Chieftain convertible. I have pics I can email. I would like to sell it on her behalf but don't know it's origin or value. Maybe someone could help me identify it properly. Thanks in advance for your response.

That is quite unusual. There were a number (small number) of places/people back in the '50s who were offering removable hardtops for convertibles. Often "Carson-type" custom items.

There were even some clear plexiglas units... which must have been hot!

Yours looks to be too short for a standard 1950 Pontiac. Maybe it's the angle of the photograph Have you checked it against an actual car? Perhaps this person was an early customizer of sorts and had a cover over the back seat also.

It looks short to me, too. Measure from the center of the front to the center of the rear, then try to set it up so the rear is flush with the floor, and measure the height that the windshield would be. Measure the width where it would meet the rear windows, and the width at the windsheild, too. There are members with convertibles and Catalina's who can measure theirs, and give you an estimate if it would fit or not.
