I'm a new Pontiac Owner. I have a collection of cars but just obtained my first Pontiac. I bought a 1972 Lemans Sport Convertible with the Endura Option. Really a good looking ride, but does need restoration. I have already got my PHS documentation and Window Sticker. It is a numbers matching car and the car has not been hacked on. I am trying to get a production number of how many of these cars came with the Endura option. I found that they built a little over 3400 Lemans Convertibles in 1972 but have been unable to find a number for the Endura option. Any body know the answer?

Lucky you! That is a great Pontiac to have.

You are close in total production; it was actually 3,468 convertibles produced. Interestingly, the Lemans Sport was a sub-series of the Lemans in 1972, all by itself. As added confusion there was a "Sport" option available for the Lemans series that was different. So there was a Sport Series and a Sport Option.

The Endura nose was only a $41.00 option, which makes you wonder why everyone didn't have it. Do you also have the scooped hood? That was a $56.00 additional cost.

I have never seen numbers of Sport Lemans' with the Endura front end. It is difficult to get totals on any options as all puublished figures are by car and model only, with a few exceptions to engines and transmissions. The only way this number would be know is if someone with access to factory break down records releases them. And perhaps someone has somewhere that we haven't learned of, our will one day.

Both the hood and nose are even listed as options on the GTO, which many would think were standard on it.

Good luck with your restoration. Be sure to check all of our suppliers who offer nice discounts to our members. Look under "AFFILIATES" then "Member Discounts." Please post photos of your progress in our Photo Gallery- create your own file there for all your friends and family to also share (they don't have to be members to view your items).

Yeah, it has the hood and fenders as well as the GTO nose. It's a 350, 2 Barrel, 3 Speed. Originally Monarch Yellow with a White Top.

Sharp car. Pretty cool to have a 3-speed too. That Monarch yellow was a nice color too.

Guess it never has to worry about getting stuck somewhere with that PowerWagon (?) sharing stable space!

Yeah, that picture was taken in Missouri where I found the car. The Dodge Carryall was a vehicle that I had restored and delivered to the owner. I'm leaving in the morning to retrieve the Pontiac and bring it home to Florida. Then I will start the restoration.

Hello All, I own a 1972 LeMans Sport Convertible. I was told by a Pontiac collector that in 1972 Pontiac made 74 4 speed and 280 automatic LeMans Sport Convertibles with the 400cid and Endura options. Can anyone confirm and do you know where the documentation can be found.

The nearest we can find published is that in 1972 317 Sport Lemans convertibles had synchromesh (3 or 4-speed??) transmissions, leaving 3,121 with automatic.

There may be further production breakdowns, but not in the "public" files. Your best bet is to contact PHS and see if they have any of those numbers in their factory data.
