I am taking a 403 motor out of my 1979 T/A and putting in a 400 Pontiac motor. What am I going to run into doing this swap? What parts are different between the two motors that I,m going to need? The car is an automatic.

A little looking around shows that the frame mounts are OK, but the engine brackets are different. You need to use the Pontiac ones. Also the Olds engine "shaker" assy. is different than the 400 one; won't center correctly in your hood if put on a 400. Ditto on the bracketing and such for the accessories. Will need Pontiac stuff for your new Pontiac engine.

It appears that the engine brackets for 1975-'81 are the same, even those from the 301 will work on the 400 and 455.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Other than getting lucky and finding the original build sheet stuck in the rear seat cushion or nearby, the only chance is by contacting Pontiac Historical Services. Google to find their web site. There is a charge involved, but probably well worth the cost to prove what you wish.
