According to the sales we were seeing at Mecum in Kissimmee yesterday, this price is close if the car is very good. It seemed like about $20K was what very good quality T/As were pulling. I would have thought more based on last year's auction, but the economy is still down.

The Kelley Blue Book for early cars shows it as:
$7350 for Fair,
$16,300 for Good, and
$26,900 for Excellent
PLUS: 30% for 455/200hp.

The pictures on Craig's List look good, but you know how deceiving that can be. Nothing beats eyeball-to-eyeball when parting with big money.

The "Good" price with the 30% for the 455 is very close (a bit over) the asking price. To me "Good" must be very good, not actually requiring any rebuilding or restoration, and not damaged or repaired (especially poorly). It also does not mean ill fitting trim, weatherstripping, panels, etc.
"Good" should mean very nice when considering what "excellent" should mean-- like nealry brand new.

Unfortunately, everybody thinks their car is at least one, perhaps two, steps above the quality it actually is. And anybody can pay asking price. The real deal is when you get it for less than what it should be. I hate to encourage taking advantage of someone, but this is a really good buyer's market. Unfortunately lots of people are having to sell their toys. Without kiling someone, now is the time to lowball on price.

Let us know how it turns out.

The story behind the car is that it belonged to a guy who works for boeing and he is being transferred with his job. He has a car collection and can't take them all so he DONATED this one to his church for them to sell and use the proceeds for their work. The preacher is the one handling selling the car and he doesn't really know anything about the car other than what the guy told him about it and the tons of documentation that comes with it (which he probably doesn't really understand Smile ) SO we are hoping to "low ball" him and get it at a real deal!!!

Just looking at the dirty & unpainted engine compartment that it's not in # 1 condition so I would take a magnet with you & check for all the bondo that is covered up in the new paint. I'd look close at the rear frame rails to as thats a bad spot on those years to. Also remember ALL 455's were 4 spd's in 75. So just saying that the 455 HO is nothing more then a passenger car 455 thats just as under powered as all in that year to.
