1967 Grand Prix

PostPosted: Sat Oct 16, 2010 1:53 pm    Post subject: 1967 GP Conv w/428 Reply with quote

I am thrilled that I found your site. Have been searching high and low for great Pontiac info. I have a 1967 GP Conv with a 428, Disc Breaks & Factory Air - Calif Car w/37K original miles - she runs, and is a complete original. . . Even have the cardboard lining for the trunk! Smile

How do I tell if it is a 428 HO? I purchased her in California from the original owners and brought her to Wis 15 years ago - Always wanted to restore her, and still would, but hubby isn't too excited.... so I may be trying to find a good home for her. It saddens me to let her go, but also realize they may be someone out there just dying for a 67 GP Conv!!! Smile

If I do decide to sell her, would this be a good place to start? I have no idea what to ask if I do decide to sell her - Can anyone provide me with some direction???? Appreciate the help -

Sounds like a nice car. Hope you don't sell it, but keep and enjoy it. You don't have to have a perfect restoration either to have fun with it. Keep it out of the Wisconsin salt and it should pretty much remain a time capsule from here on.

Where about in Wisconsin? I'm in Florida (last 32 years), but originally from Milwaukee/Waukesha area.

The 428 came in 360 and 376 horsepowers, just because of a diferent compresion ratio (10.5:1 and 10.75:1). If there were other differences, I don't see them mentioned. I also do not se if the 376 HP was considered as an HO.

The engine codes for the 360 HP are: WG, Y2, YY. For the 376 HP they are: WJ, XK, Y3, YH, YK. You might want to see what yours says.

Keep us posted on your GP adventures.

no2kgL. If you look under the hood on the 67 if it ws an HO it would have the long branch exhaust manifolds on it. But of course they could have been changed out but I would think they would have left the oil filter adapter on it which would set the oil filter at about a 30* angle & would be about 1/2 inch away from the block. Also of course it has to be a 4bbl to. The code if Larry didn't mention it are just below the right head & will be a 2 letter stamped into the block surface . If you can get those for me or Larry we can let you know whats up.

I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could.
