Many years ago, when PHS was free(?) or at least very inexpensive, I had heard that people would keep sending and resending the same search request in the hopes that one would slip through without having the original owner's name blocked out. But they got wise to that, and all that I have seen have that info blanked out very well.

However, have you tried asking PHS if they have any guidance in helping you find the dealer your car was delivered to? That, I wouldn't think, should be a secret (if it is in any of their documentation, that is).

The old tried and true searching/tracking is lube service stickers, receipts left in the glovebox, or lost under the seats. I assume you have checked all the nooks and crannys.

Your VIN will tell the manufacturing plant, which may or may not play a role in narrowing down where it was delivered.

Any suggestions from anyone else who has taken on such a project?

Does PHS black out ther dealer delivery info on the documentation? If so, that doesn't seem like it should be a secret.

It sounds like the only way left is the hardest, and that is trying to back-track through previous owners. Being in Canada, that might be difficult.

The only other thing I have read about is certain states being "car hobby friendly" and having some assistance through their motor vehicle departments.

Please let us know if you discover any new avenues that might help others in their searches too.

I would check through PHS and make sure it was not just an error. I have had five cars documented through PHS and every one of them gave the information on where the cars were sold at.

When I ordered reproductions of the original style window stickers, the dealers were listed on there too. There were at least two or three sources in the documentation that listed the info you are wanting.

Both my 1974 T/A's, both of my 1963 Tempest and a friends 1969 Firebird. All gave dealership they were sold at.

Again, I would double check with PHS.

jon0069. Have you looked under the rear seat pad to see if a build sheet was there?? Also if you have the PHS paper work you may be able to call him & ask him to give you just the selling dealers name. Most of those dealers are gone now anyway, but you next best way is to go through you local DMV & have a back search done to find out who the original owner is. They probably won't give you a name but may give you a location so you can at least know where it came form if there is a dealer in the city they give you. Still you may not get what you need even if you find the dealer. I worked in dealers for 33 years & i can tell you after 10 years they throw away all old paper work as they only have to keep the paperwork for that amount of time & to them it's just waste then, it goes into the dumpster & hauled away. Hope you get lucky with it.
