Day 2: Scrubbed the pans, took out the rear seats and seat back, cleaned up the wiring, and drove it to my buddy Tony's shop, True Line, Inc. in El Cajon, CA. We were able to throw it on the lift and assess the extent of the rust underneath the car. It was pretty bad!! Rusted through in the rear seat pans and top of the wheel wells. Also, the transmission cross member was hanging off the left frame rail where it was jammed. Bummer!

Day 3: Cleaned up the frame rails in preparation of welding in the cross-member. Hector at True Line cut new extensions out of steel stock with a plasma cutter and he and Scott welded it up. Piece of cake! Then we took off the front and rear bumpers and valances and took them back to Scott's garage to bang on 'em with hammers! We finished up the day cleaning and Armour Alling the back seats and trim.

Day 4-5: Back at Tony's, the boys were braking out on the brakes. The shoe adjusters had been rusted into place and required a air-chisel to remove. All the drums were scored thorough and the shoes were down to metal. We put in the order for new: Upper and Lower Ball Joints, control arm bushings, tie rods and Bilstein shocks front and rear. Tony tuned the Holly double pumper and she'll be ready to get pre-primed with anti-rust.

I finally think I figured out how to upload the photos, so take a look. I will post more as we move on.

You're not wasting any time on this project!

Thanks for the reports, it gives some of us hope that some of us too can one day get to our projects with some gusto.

Thanks for the photos too. I know you had tried to post some in earlier messages that didn't show up. You can "edit" your own posts by clicking the edit button at the top right of the message block. Browse the photo, click "add" them "submit" and they will be there without altering or putting your original post ion a different sequence. Would love to see those earliest shots.

Please remember we have suppliers for some parts that you may need who give our members very nice discounts. Don't forget to check the "Members Discount" list.

Keep us posted as you move along.

Thanks,
Larry

I think those other photos were at a resolution greater than 1200x1600, so I changed the size and took a few more today. Here they are.

Day 7: Great day for a car show. Lot's of the roadster guys there. A few that liked this project too. Drove for the first time with the new front end and brakes, ran pretty good too! Took her back to Scott's garage and tore into the de-greasing, scraping and rust pre-primer. Once we get her all cleaned up, we're taking the car and the bumpers and wheels in for sandblasting! Very Happy
