8-Lug Aluminum Balancing Question

For those with the 8-Lug Aluminum wheels what are you doing when you mount new tires for balancing? Most of the tire dealers only have spin balance machines here, as I do not know of any tire stores with the old bubble balancers or the on the car wheel balancers, so do you have a suggestion? I am getting 4 new tires next week and would like a suggestion.

How far is Columbus, IN from Lebanon, OH? (Cincinnati area) Mike has an old balancer and can balance them on the car (which is actually a much better method because you balance the entire assy.) Call Mike or Tim at Luti Tire - 937-932-4350 and see if they can get you set up. Or you can call Bob at RetroMotive @ 262-284-9837 in WI, he sells a fitting you can use for balancing the 8 lug wheels.

64 CatDropTop, thanks for the information. I live approx. 70 miles due west of Cincy. I will give Bob a call to check on the fitting for balancing. I am due to have all 4 tires changed due to the WSW's turning yellow, and I have not been able to make them white. I will check at the Goodyear Store when I go to have them changed and see if they are able to balance them with their equipment or if I will need a special fitting. Thanks again for the info.

Try EZ-Off oven cleaner - seriously. If it doen't make them white again, I'd eat my hat!! AJax works well also.

I have found a solution to balancing 8-lug wheels. A fellow in WI. makes an adapter plate that bolts to your wheel with 4 lugs and enables it to be spin balanced on a balancer. He was at the Norwalk Nationals, but at the time I did not see the adapter plates and did not have a need one at that time. If anyone is interested contact me and I will give you his ph. #.

I just use a spare rear drum to balance the wheels. Bolt the drum to the balancer (common 5x5 pattern) and the wheel to the drum.

I would index and balance the rims and drums as one unit for the rears.
