I have seen many people lately looking for past-owned cars. Must be a lot of baby-boomers looking for the past fun machines.

I tried many years ago to advertise in Old Cars Weekly and Hemmings for a 1966 Fairlane GT I had when in the Air Force. I didn't have the VIN, but it would have been easy to spot as it was painted red, white, and blue. Plus had a ton of performance mods. But, no luck.

There is no communication between state DMVs, and even in one's own state, they rarely have the time (or desire) to help; even if their records go back far enough. Plus, they will not give out other people's contact information.

The only real way to do this hunt is like you have... advertise every place you can. And do any back tracking if you have any information on who you sold to, or where. Put on your Columbo hat! But in the meantime, finding one "just like" you had, or one you can made as such is a pretty enjoyable substitute too.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Thanks for encouragement. I actually have a 73 restored Trans Am, but sometimes you just get an itch...
