Unfortunately there is no central data base that holds answers to questions such as this. A registry is probably the closest anyone will ever come to verifying a count because those who are interested will want to contribute. Problem is, how many people don't even know about this registry.

My own gut feeling is that this 21% figure of 150 qty. is probably pretty close. Considering that most cars of 40+ years old follow the 10% rule of thumb, the known-from-the-beginning rarity of these cars probably has helped to keep the numbers high.

Considering that this registry might be 50% low, a 32% figure makes for 223 cars, and that would still be a low number. But then again believable when you factor in the rare factor.

Now if you realy want to play with the numbers, how many '69 T/As are there out there that are just wanna-bes?

I would bet their 10% figure is a good one when factoring in the '69-'72 years. Remember that after '69, the Trans Am wasn't the rare car as when first introduced in such low numbers. And because of their performance they lived a hard- and often short- life.

I'm feeling pretty good that the registery you referenced is not too far off when considering just the 1969 year at about 21%. I bet a lot of people saw the future collectability of them and thus they survived a bit better than the others.
