1979 Firebird

PostPosted: Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:53 am    Post subject: 1979 Firebird Formula Reply with quote

I am converting my Formula into a look-a-like Trans Am. Having trouble getting the shaker to center with the hood ridge. Before I bought it someone put a Edlebrock Carb. on it. I think that may be my problem. Has anyone ever tried to do this before? If so some info would be nice.

There should be no reason for it not centering (assume you mean on the ridge down the center of the hood). No Firebirds were ever "off center" other than the turbos that I know of.

A Formula and a Trans Am all start out the same, engine position-wise, etc. And, I have never noticed an aftermarker intake being off center. To confirm, a simple measurement from the carb center post to something like shock towers on both sides should give anidea if things are off center.

Let us know what you find out.

Thank you. I will take that measurment. I have tried two shakers one off a Pontiac 400 and one off a Olds 403 and they both set off center. When you close the hood the center ridge of the hood does not line up and the shaker sets to the right an inch to far. The 403 olds in the firebird is the original motor right down to the tall oil fill spout. I will let you know what the measurements are on my next post.
