We have been trying to research and find out what would be the best method to crankcase vacuum on our 1965 Tempest racecar. We want to keep oil leaks away from the motor and try to increase power in the meantime.

I guess we have two different alternatives we can try on our engine. We have tossed around the idea of running a Moroso racing vacuum pump or an electric vacuum pump.

We currently have much of the engine tied up with belts, etc. (from water pump to alternator to belt-driven fuel system.) As you might imagine, the engine is very busy on the frontend with all the brackets, pulleys, etc.

We have thought about trying to use one of the SSBC brake electric vacuum pump kits. Some areas I have looked at are the sizes of the lines. The Moroso pump uses a 12 AN fitting, which is much larger in volume than the SSBC kit.

Will the 12v SSBC kit work for what we are wanting? Are we wasting our time with the electric kit if we decide to run it?

I would like some honest input on this. If the SSBC electric kit will work good for what we are wanting to use it for, I have good locations to mount and hook up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the advice Bruce. I will pass this on to Scott. I am sure my dad and Scott can do some rerouting to make everything work.

Super...You may want to call Butler on this one.
We just ordered and got in the Moroso Vac. Pump kit. Comes with everything needed. They recommended the 3 vane pump for our new application.
Good Luck.
Thomas

If you are seeking more vacuum for braking, check out the hydroboost at http://hydratechbraking.com/products/ it leaves the front of the engine clean looking without running more accessories.
