How many of you have had the oppurtunity to experiment with or run a Ram Air V engine?

Ram Air V heads?

How about drag racing applications?

Guess I should have known better than anyone else being in this segment of the site. Too bad we can not get more involvement on this topic.

What was so bad about their design Bruce (engine and heads)? I figured the limited production probably killed many from getting their hands on them. Were the blocks beefed up in the lifter bore area such as the SD engine?

There was a '62 owned by one of the Heck brothers that had Ram Air V heads on it. I noticed this at Norwalk this year. Once I saw the heads and the center ports seperated, I knew what it was.

I had always heard these heads worked great at extremely high RPM. Is this a bunch of B.S.?

Thank you for the information Bruce. Being a drag racer at heart, I would much rather have an impressive time slip more than anything.

Have you ever seen a SD-455 block break the lifter bore? The additional webbing appears to be a great bridge for the block.

Back in the 70's and 80's, my father primarily used Ram Air IV heads on his combinations. He ran 6.50's with a '58 370 block with these heads. 3000lb.

At PontiacRegistry.com, to quote Sgt. Joe Friday, "Nothing but the facts maam."
We want to create a library of sorts of good information. Whether someone agrees or disagrees, they can state their opinions. But, to supply prove won't hurt their case either. We don't want someone attacking someone because "they heard something somewhere from someone who heard it..." or because they don't like ther way they part their hair (or as we get older, part WITH their hair!).
Keep good information flowing and always resist the temptation to throw sand.
Thanks,
Larry
PS: Anyone can state their opinion; heck, we might just learn something new that we thought wrongly about before.... imagine that!?

This is the end of summer in much of the country, and everything is getting crammed into the short time left. Not many people spending in-house time for the next bit.
You and I are spoiled living where you can live outside all year around!
