The following hand written sheets are from Doug Klein of Baldwin Harbor, Long Island. He tells us the following about them: “In 1988, I went with a Grand Prix club to the “new” GM Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas to see the assembly of Car and Drivers, “1988 Car of the Year”, the Pontiac Grand Prix. Tours were given to special interest groups, and directed by the United Auto Workers Union, Customer Satisfaction Department. Our tour director, ready to retire, served as editor for the UAW’s internal newsletter. I got to visiting with him, and asked if there was any information available about “platings” used on ‘60’s cars. He told me that he would check with someone from their engine/chassis assembly department. Although he wasn’t able to find any plating information for me, he gave me these handwritten sheets and told me that they had found them tucked away in some file cabinet. They also sent a box load of nuts, bolts, clips, etc. that someone had in their office. They appear to be original ‘meeting notes’ for all engines and subassemblies for 1966. They are loaded with sizes and part numbers for almost everything imaginable on the 1966 engines. I hope they might be able to help some of our members.”

While some of our readers might find page after page of engine part numbers and such akin to watching paint dry. Perhaps somewhere in all these numbers will be an answer to something someone has been wondering about for a long time.

These first series of data pages are for the 230 6-cylinder OHC engine. But, don’t worry Hot Rodders.... the next 25 pages are ALL V-8– including perhaps never before seen Tri-Power data. Stay tuned for more!

NOTE: You can also view this article in our On-Line Magazine. See "By the Numbers- Part I", posted in the January 2007 issue (1/03/07).
