Windshield wipers

I have a 69 GTO and the wipers only go up about 3 or 4 inches and then go back down. Can anyone help.

The good news is that the wiper motor is working. The bad news is that perhaps something is binding forcing the wipers to think they have reached full travel and returning to the park position. Those assemblies are one of the most complicated things possible to diagnose/adjust. My 1969 Shop Manual has a lot if info on the wipers, but no troubleshooting chart.

On my '69 Tempest I simply replaced the entire thing. The pump connections were damaged, so I first replaced that. Then, just to be safe, replaced the entire motor assembly. They are available from places like The Parts Place and aren't very expensive.

If you wish, before replacing, just remove yours and clean the heck out of it with something like brake cleaner and then liberal amounts of WD40. On things like linkage and cams, put on a small amount of lithium grease. It's worth a try.
