40 coupe with running boards a must, prefer a deluxe with sliding rear windows. Turn-key car. Not interested in the Torpedo #29 model coupe.
Street rodded ok and preferred but will consider a stocker.

"With running boards" might rule out the Model 29 Torpedo... however, some did have running boards as an accessory. I had a friend who had one equipped as such.

Surprisingly, a Google search of "1940 Pontiacs for Sale" generates a bunch of places selling them; mostly dealers.

I have a 2519 sedan; the Chevy body '40. To me they are the nicest looking (compared to the model 26 and 28- Buick and Oldsmobile bodies) because of the rounded lower window corners and lower roofline.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Larry. I was unaware the model 29's had running boards, I have never seen one. As I'm not looking for a Torpedo coupe I don't know much about them.
Question for you. On the non-torpedo coupes can you educate me the difference in overall lengths. I know the 25 is the shortest and is the Chev body. I'm especially interested in the body shell length differences. Did they use the same Buick shell for both the 26 & 28 models? Is there a quick way to identify a Chev body vs. Buick bodied without the model #?
Also did any of the non-torpedo coupes have the ribbed trim plate down the center of the trunk lid?
Most of of the ads on the internet are not current. As a matter of fact some of the ads are many years old. Right now there are 2 or maybe 3 that are available for sale.

Sorry for the delay, I missed your last questions.

The Torpedo Coupes are really cool as they are big Cadillac bodies. I had a '41 Cadillac Deluxe Coupe. But I doubt you would ever find the accessory running boards as my friend had. They may not have even been factory items.

Yes, the 25 Model is Chevy body and the 26 and 28 are Buick/Oldsmobile. The easiest way to tell is that the 25 has rounded door and side window lower corners (where the door glass and rear window glass corners are). The 26 and 28 have sharp angle corners in both places.

The length is the same (less bumpers) for the 26 and 28, but the 25 is about 3/4" shorter.

I never really paid much attention to the rear "Silver Streaks." The sedans all have them on the trunk, but not the coupes (I am not aware if the Torpedo does).

Another thing to note is that for the coupes, the Sport Coupes have a smaller rear side window and a roof line that drops down kind of sharply to the trunk area. However, the Business Coupes have a longer side window and a more flowing back roofline where it meets to the trunk area. The Business Coupe actually looks more streamlined than the Sport Coupe, but you don't get a back seat. My favorite coupe with the smoothest flowing lines would be a 25 Model Business Coupe.
