Have a 40 buss coupe 25 what hold the windshield in place . The rubber I got from Steele has only a slot for the glass. The other rubbers had two slots one for the glass and one for the metal edge to pop in. Any help is appreciated . Mike

I have a 2519 '40 model. The 25 model (Chevy body) has the windshield that pushes in from the inside. The body area around the windshield holds it in (it's a good tight fit, so be careful pushing). The inside garnish molding then holds it in (though it could hardly ever fallout!).

The 26, 28, and I believe the 29 models have a rubber seal that has a groove around the outside to overlap the body/windshield opening. Similar to the rear window rubber.

Be very careful installing. I used the Steele rubber also, and the new center strip was so hard that I ended up cracking one of the glasses because there was no "give" to it. I also used the sealant they recommended-- BIG mistake! It was so stiff that it also didn't have any give to it. We were doomed at the outset! I told them about it.

I ended up spending HOURS cleaning that goop off of the rubber as I sure wasn't going to throw away a new $150.00 rubber!

I also took the cracked right side glass and had a new one made about 1/8-1/4 inch smaller in width and height. I also had them grind down the left side glass the same. All went fine on the second install.

I did not use any of the Steele sealant, but added regular black silicone around the outside between the glass and rubber (carefully lift it up) and clean up any that comes out when you put the rubber lip back down. I think I put a small amount on the inside before we installed the glass. It is slippery enough that it doesn't interfere with putting the glass and rubber in like the horrible stuff they recommended (and charged for).

Good luck, and yell if you have any other questions about your '40.

See drawings below.
