I removed the temp sensor and checked ohms and find it open. Therefore it is bad. Are new sensors general or must I use specific sensor same as original?
Does the sensor have to be calibrated to the temp display on dash?

See answer to other post. I have never heard of any calibration of the gauge to the sending unit.

See two pages below from the Shop Manual about the temp gauge system.
