Thanks for joining PontiacRegistry.com. Your support is greatly appreciated. I have had a couple '54 Star Chiefs over the years, but never got much into the nits and grits of decoding them. However, I do have some info that may help.

The style number does reflect the Star Chief convertible. The body numbers are just internal plant numbers that may correspond to something somewhere during assembly, but don't have anything to do with the car's identity after production.

I cannot find any reference to the trim number 89, but don't actually know of any different trim level available in the Star Chief, so perhaps they were all #89.

The paint number is for Cirro Gray, and it indicated a black top.

The accessory letter codes are strange. If you look at the "B" and the "S" individually, they indicate underseat heater and defroster and comfort control front seat, respectively. However, I highly doubt any Star Chief convertible came through with just two accessories, nor were a ton added by the dealer to a stripped down car. So..... I'm wondering if the "B-S" might indicate accessories "B" THROUGH "S". That would open up a whole list of items.

Considering that the '54 sales literature was promoting five different accessory "Groups" that may be the case: Basic Group, Convenience Group, Apperance Group, Comfort Group, and Protection Group. I can copy you some of ther lists of stuff I have if you like, although the Accessory Brochure is a foldout like about 2' x 3' in size... lots of goodies.

I have a good friend of many years (our Automatic Transmission Tech Advisor), who has had a couple '54s, including a convertible, and a '54 Star Chief convertible he is currently restoring. He will be happy to help you however he can... as will I.

(These questions were addressed in a separate e-mail, but we would like to post here also for others so it might help them too.)
