Does anyone know where I can get a replacement fuel tank sender? My car is a 428, AC, auto.
Will a similar unit from a another GM division work? The last part number I found was 6427640.

Thanks in advance!

While you might get lucky and find a new one somewhere, they are getting rare, and very expensive. Even a NOS item may not work well after sitting for so many years.

There are some rebuilding services around, one being Tri-Starr. You can check them at: http://tristarrradiator.com

Unfortunately the Hollander Interchange Manuals do not break down to the sending units, so we can't find any others that might fit.

Be careful of any "universal" units. You need to know if yours is a 90ohm typical early GM one. New units may be much higher ohm ratings and your gauge will not read right. I just put new vintage looking gauges in my '40 Pontiac (converting to all modern stuff) with a 1970 Chevy II gas tank and new sending unit. I had to add a "module" that goes between the tank and gauge and set it for the 90ohm unit. The module was about $125.00.

The newer gauges have much higher ohm ratings that supposedly give the gauge needle a more sweeping action. Me? Who cares? I'm just interested in full and empty, in between I don't care how smoothly the needle moves.
