Bill Porter- One of Pontiac's Design Leaders

Since Harley Earl first created the Color and Design Studio at General Motors in the 1920s, GM has had some of the greatest names in innovative design pass through their giant doors.

One such talent was Bill Porter. While most Firebird/Trans Am buffs claim him as their own, his Pontiac time was spent on many other Pontiac projects of equal fame. Additionally, his time spent with other GM brands produced equally great creations.

John Z. DeLorean- Rebel with a Cause

Like a shooting rocket, there is usually a big bang at the end. Sometimes it's a magnificent display of color and light that leaves a long-lasting impression, and sometimes it's a huge flash of bright eye-piercing white light and a clap of thunder as if the gods have banged a hammer of disapproval.

This story of John Z. DeLorean may be more the latter. Pontiac and automotive author and historian John Gunnell has taken us through the rise and fall of this unique individual. And he has lent a good degree of dignity and grace through the study, leaving the reader to form his or her own opinion of the man. Then an article from an English paper that follows paints a much more un-retouched picture of the man.

Putting the gray (some say black) spots aside, we Pontiac lovers still have a lot to thank JZD for in the development of our favorite car. However, think of what more automotive advances he might have accomplished had his ego been in better check.
