1954 Bonnevile Special & 1956 Club de Mer

Perhaps the most famous of all Pontiac "Dream Cars" are the 1954 Bonneville Special and the 1956 Club de Mer. Their unique, futuristic designs have etched a place in Pontiac's rich history.

Here we take an in depth look at these two magnificent Pontiacs and see why they have earned such a respected place in the Pontiac hobbyplace.

1965 Herb Adams' Design Study Car Surfaces

Many Pontiac hobbyists know Herb Adams as the great designer of some of their favorite cars of the '60s. But how many know about the "Concept Car" he created on his own... the "Vivant."

Here is, we hope, just the beginning of information about this design study from a great mind. Let's see if more information comes forth as this newly found (and sold) car is restored and documented.

1965 Pontiac Banshee: Story of the XP-833

Many do not know how close Pontiac actually came to becoming a "Corvette Killer." However, those who do know, also know that is probably 99.9% the reason they didn't. As sad as that makes us Pontiac lovers, one can't really blame GM for the decision they made to pull the Pontiac Banshee XP-833 plug. But wouldn't it have been a fun ride... literally, if such a car had come out of the Pontiac stables? So we guess this is just one of the many Pontiac "what ifs" that we can dream and wonder about.

1987 Pursuit

"Concept" cars were design exercises in what might actually come to be, as opposed to "Dream" cars that were just that... dreams.

Here we take a look at the Pontiac Pursuit of 1987 and what Pontiac saw as the (their) future. While there may be many unique features... many of which actually came to be in the production world... one wonders if this view of the future for Pontiac wasn't a big contribution to its demise.

In this time, however, Pontiac was not alone with this sort of design. But for the diehard Pontiac lover, one surely would have a difficult time believing that this was the future they would have chosen.

1988 Banshee

Most Pontiac fans know about the Banshee Concept Car from 1966, but few remember seeing this second generation Banshee of 1988.

Like all "concept" cars, it is made of "could be" designs and materials. That is, things that one could actually appreciate as being possible in the not to distant future. This particular Banshee was eyed as a candidate for the next century Firebird. And by 2000 there were many design ideas being used in the Firebirds that resemble this Banshee, especially the front end treatment.

1999 Concept GTO

In a continuation of our "Concept Car" review, we feature the "Concept GTO" as released by Pontiac in January of 1999 in a special press kit.

Why oh why did they tease us so with this great looking car, only to pull it away from us again? One will never know what was actually going on within the hallowed chambers of PMD back then (or for the following years up to and including this dismal year that we learn of Pontiac's demise). As a conciliation, at least we have this history of what we hoped might have been.

Firebird IV Turbine Car & GM XP-500

As promised in the beginning, we would eventually get up to featuring the Firebird IV experimental turbine car- for what it actually was (you'll have to read to find out more).

But we also present here an additional GM project review of the 1956 GM XP-500 "free piston engine" car. Most interesting, however, is the press release featuring views of the future by then GM President Mr. Curtice. It is very intriguing reading in view of the present General Motors situation.

Do a little Googling of "Free Piston Engines" to learn more. From all I can gather about them, this GM XP-500 must have moved like a herd of turtles.

Firebird Kammback Wagons

Sure I love my Firebird, but..... Seems there has always been a trade-off when it came to performance, and in the case of the small-bodied Firebird, it was space. "If only I could get Firebird performance and station wagon utility." Dream no more, the Kammback wagon is here... or at least it was though to be one day. There is a long history of experimentation with this concept on the Firebird, unfortunately never to be (for production, that is).
