We all know that 1955 ushered in the Pontiac V8 era... and what an era it started! It wasn't long either that Pontiac responded to "the need for speed" with an even more powerful version of this first new engine. In this article we get a look at the "285" Strato-Streak V8 and learn about one of its most famous accomplishments.

1963 Tempest Super Duty

People like to say "the harder I work, the luckier I get." That, of course, applies to those who "make their own luck" through hard work. But, then again, sometimes there is just plain "Pure Luck" as in this story.

This event involves good luck for a seller who almost made a very dumb mistake, and a buyer who landed the big prize. In this case a long-lost super rare 1963 Tempest Super Duty was found, bought, and restored to past glory. Could you be so lucky? Perhaps the "harder I work" theory may apply as you scavenge the nooks and crannys of potential Pontiac buried treasure.

1971 NASCAR GTO

It appears that this is not just a urban myth, but for real... there was a GTO running in NASCAR in 1971. However, all else seems to fall into the "myth" category. At least in that there is little information about this car. It seems that there was more success with a model maker producing this car in various forms than there was with the actual car.

2009 Solstice Coupe

There are certainly Solstice fans, and who can blame them. It is a neat little car. But I don't think it set the world on fire as had been hoped. Well, it appears that this new Solstice Coupe for 2009 might just start the fires blazing. It is world class all the way.

A Drag Racing Legend

There are only a few names that stand out when it comes to Pontiac racing, but that of Selden Ruwwe is certainly one of them. This article, by Pontiac hobbyist and racer Jeff Redhage, tells of Selden's early days of Pontiac, his fascination with the Super Duty vehicles, and his successes building and racing Pontiacs during the exciting '60s.

Early Time Pontiac Racer

Many racers grew to be no more than local celebrities, but they were the backbone of the growing racing industry... and we all know how huge that is today!

This is a story... with lots of neat old photos... of one of these early racers. And most interesting of all, his ride of choice was Pontiac.

First Prostock to Top 210 mph!

If a new record was going to be set, we sure are happy that it was by a Pontiac. The Summit GTO piloted by Greg Anderson has done us all proud with new record-setting speeds.

OHC-6 on Steroids

Every once and a while you find something a bit out of the ordinary... OK, a lot out of the ordinary! Such is the case of this account of a Pontiac OHC-6 souped up and planted in a.... ready? A boat! Although this project never got off the ground (perhaps not the right choice of words, but you get the point), it sure looked neat.

Pontiac Wins 10th NHRA Manufacturer's Cup

Pontiac has been doing a great job campaigning the "new" GTO on the NHRA strips. Whenever you see NHRA coverage, it is more than likely that you will see a Pontiac featured. These efforts are not going unrewarded, including industry accolades.

Running a Firebird at Bonneville

Recently Pontiac author and historian John Gunnell made a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats with the local Fox Valley Technical College to help them try to break the 200 mph mark with the Firebird that the students built.

The car is the result of a lot of effort and help from others, and almost made the mark. If not for a transmission failure, it would have easily joined the 200 mph Club. But, there's next year with even more knowledge and experience now under their collective belts.

Rusty Wallace- One of the New Old Time Pontiac Racers

We forget that in more recent Pontiac racing history, there were giants who stood out from the crowd. Such was the case with Rusty Wallace. And, while he did hop to different brands, he stayed longer with Pontiac than many of this same time span did, earning himself a place in Pontiac's rich racing history.

Top Tuner Solstice

OK, so you aren't into "Tuners"... but you do enjoy seeing new ideas, right? So, then you'll enjoy seeing what a group of automotive designers in Canada did to a Solstice to woo the show goers. This is a test-bed of sorts to see just how wild a little two-seater Solstice can get.
