1963 Tempest- Detroit Drag Way

These vintage drag shots don't get much cooler than this. It's hard to consider that in '63 a big city track was so, shall we say, rustic, when compared to the way many have grown today.

The "Dirty D" as it was called didn't get to enjoy life beyond 1998 when it closed its doors. But from its opening in 1959, it was some of the biggest and baddest Detroit had to offer. Like much of detroit, the Motor City image has faded (and in some cases died).

Here a 421 Tempest is about to show who's boss as a small crowd watches from the hill behind. I am hesitant to guess, but is that a '65 GTO next door? Unless the Tempest is all decals, and no go, I think I can foretell the outcome of this event.

There are many, many more Pontiac race photos in our "Strange and Interesting Pontiac Sightings" forum to enjoy.
