Passionate Poncho III
1963 Catalina
Few would argue that Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick is perhaps the greatest independent racer to ever campaign Pontiacs... and very successfully too. The quiet man from Morrison, Illinois, who in the early years had to mix racing with farming, had links into PMD that helped, but his determination to succeed, and hard work made him one of racing's most famous names.
It was probably difficult at times to look at a Pontiac and say "I want to make it go really fast." Have you noticed the size of this '63 Catalina? That is one big car to power down the track. But with the combination of the power and performance that we all know as Pontiac, and the determination of a man like Arnie Beswick proved to be a package that few could beat.
At PontiacRegistry.com we have numerous articles celebrating Pontiac's rich racing history in our On-Line Magazine, as well as many, many classic racing photos in our "Just for Fun" "Strange and Interesting Pontiac Sightings" forum. Join PontiacRegistry.com to enjoy all of these great pieces of Pontiac history.
