1960 Catalina

PostPosted: Wed May 17, 2006 7:20 am    Post subject: Wiper Motor Reply with quote

My 60 Catalina has a single speed wiper motor and no washer pump. I have pulled 2 dual speed wiper motors with pumps from 60 Pontiacs. When I install the dual speed motors the wipers do not park properly. Any ideas? I have not yet found a single speed with a pump.

Sometimes there can be little hints that lead to an answer when you check the interchange books.
There is a 2-speed motor listed as a #4909107 for '59-'60 Pontiac with "non-overlap blades". Perhaps this is a hint to some differences that exist particular to the Pontiac. It doesn't mention another such note for the other cars that this motor fits.
You say you have not found any Pontiac with a single-speed motor that also has a washer. That's hard to imagine, but perhaps you can widen your search.
Interchanging with the '60 Pontiac single-speed motor is also the following single speed motors: '59-61 Buick; '61 Buick Special; '59-61 Chevy pass; '60-61 Chevy truck; '60-61 Corvair; '59-62 Olds; '61-62 Olds F-85; '59-61 Pontiac; '61 Tempest.'
It suggests that wiper motors from later models can be used on the earlier models, but does not recommend the other way around (ie: earlier to later models).
I hope this can help. Other than a possible mis-match, you might just have to consult a manual that gets into the parking adjustments on wipers. It's a bit complicated at times!
